How to Clean a Blender

My Mom taught me this method a long time ago, and I’ve been doing it ever since.

  1. Rinse out as much of the solids as possible under normal tap water, then empty.
  2. Put a bit of liquid dish soap into the blender.
  3. Fill the blender about halfway, but no more than three-quarters full, with hot water.
  4. Place the blender on the base.
  5. Turn it on.

You will end up with a warm frothy dish soap mix which cleans the blender as it goes. No need to risk cutting yourself on the blades, and it just takes a minute or two. When it’s done spinning around, turn it off, remove the lid, then pour the liquid out over the upturned lid. All clean!

How to Chop Onions without Tears

  1. Clean the onion.
  2. Place the onion in the freezer for about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Take the onion out of the freezer, and slice, dice, or chop your onion straightaway.

Freezing the onion reduces the fumes, and also gives it a slightly crisper texture, so processing is easier.
